Average Readers won't Love It Reviewed by Christina Wantz |

Seven Loves is a novel chronicling the most important relationships in one woman’s life. May Nilsson’s loves have included her husband of many years, a troubled son, an intense affair, a charismatic mother, a stunning beauty, a tortured soul, and a memorable caregiver. May’s story is representative of the relationships that span an average person’s lifetime. In theory, this is a sentimental and refreshing idea. In practice, this novel doesn’t quite pull it off. The author tries to convey the circular thought process that often occurs while looking back on one’s life. While this is a valid storytelling technique, it must be used with care, lest it create a confusing narrative. Unfortunately, this is what happened in this book. May’s memories jump around so much that the reader simply has no idea where and when the action is taking place over the course of six decades. An accomplished poet, Ms. Trueblood possesses a beautiful artist style, and a sophomoric effort would be welcome. While average readers looking for a casual read won't care for it, more literary types who can keep track of May's journey will find something to love. Reviewed by Christina Wantz Fixemer
